Connection points in high-voltage switchgear and ring main units can overheat after long-term operation because of aging, corrosion and loosening. Continuous temperature tracking helps detect deterioration before it develops into equipment damage or fire.

Because an operating RMU is enclosed, conventional instruments cannot directly measure cable-joint temperature. Passive wireless tags and a reader antenna mounted in the cable compartment provide reusable, battery-free monitoring of all three phases.
