Rotor poles in large rotating machines are exposed to electromagnetic, mechanical and thermal stress. Passive wireless sensing collects temperature without slip rings, wiring or battery maintenance.

Lightweight anti-metal tags are bolted to suitable positions on the rotor poles. A directional antenna samples each pole as it passes the reading area, allowing abnormal poles to be identified from speed and temperature trends.
